Coach Asher is in his 6th year of coaching at Dulaney and his 3rd year as Head Coach of the Varsity team. He is a NHFS Certified Level 1 coach and is an M2 level official with USA Wrestling. He has officiated at many local, state, and National level tournaments. He is also a member of the Maryland Wrestling Officials Association where he referees during the Junior League and High School season. He has previous experience coaching at Glenelg High School in Howard County. He previously coached the Cockeysville Rec Fall/Summer clinic at Dulaney.
Coach Asher was a 4-year Varsity wrestler at Mount Hebron High School where he also played football, lacrosse, and tennis. He was a County and Region Champion and was a three-time qualifier at the State Tournament, where he was a State Finalist his senior year. He finished 2nd in the State in both Freestyle and Greco Roman styles as well.
In college, Coach Asher wrestled for a short time at Lock Haven University in Pennsylvania. In his Sophomore year, he switched sports and began competing on the Boxing Club. He finished as a 2X All-American and lost a split decision in the National Finals. After college, Coach Asher began running races and completed 8 marathons, including 7 NYC marathons.
Coach Asher is still competing in wrestling and traveled to Las Vegas in May of 2015 where he placed 3rd in both Greco Roman and Freestyle at the Veterans National Championships.
He works for IBM as a technology manager. He resides in Timonium with his wife and three children, including his daughter, Molly, a Senior at Dulaney, who is a manager for the wrestling team. His daughter, Sarah, is a Sophomore at Stevenson University. His son, Jacob, is on the Dulaney Wrestling Wall of Fame and will be graduating from Frostburg State University in December 2018 and will be a Volunteer Coach at Dulaney this year.
